CEMEA SAS Researchers Inspire the Next Generation at the Summer School of Young Scientists 2026

Researchers from the Centre for Advanced Materials Application of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (CEMEA SAS) served as supervisors and mentors at the Summer School of Young Scientists 2026, held from 13–17 July 2026.

The programme gave young students a unique opportunity to experience real scientific research. Under the guidance of CEMEA researchers, participants explored topics including chemistry, molten salt systems, electrochemistry, inorganic materials, glass technology, and green hydrogen technologies. The week showed how fundamental research in advanced materials supports sustainable energy solutions.

Students performed hands-on laboratory experiments – preparing and characterizing molten salts, synthesizing inorganic materials, conducting electrochemical measurements, and producing lithium silicate glass at high temperatures. They also enjoyed interactive demonstrations with liquid nitrogen.

Programme highlight – Green Hydrogen – Using electricity from solar panels and small wind turbines, participants operated a water electrolyser to produce clean hydrogen. They learned how hydrogen fuel cells work and witnessed a live demonstration of a hydrogen-powered vehicle.

The hydrogen demonstration infrastructure was established at CEMEA SAS with support from the Small Grant Scheme of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the European DEMADES project.

The enthusiasm of the young participants and the dedication of CEMEA researchers made the Summer School 2026 a great example of how research, education, and innovation can work together to accelerate the transition to clean energy technologies.
